New to GAZEBO

Nah Wei Qi Clifford
Hi,

I have a few questions i would like to ask.

I actually followed the installation steps and they required me to install ODE 0.5. $ tar xvzf ode-0.5.tgz. but an error msg came out saying there is no such directory.I would like to enquire where shld i dl this ode0.5? Is it supposed to be included in LINUX? I am using Red Hat 4.0 which is a very old version. Is it possible to run GAZEBO on it?

Im very new to both LINUX and needless to say GAZEBO. Is there any language i should be aware of that will allow me to use GAZEBO smoothly?

I am actually doing a project to simulate the environment of a robot. Is it true that PLAYER will simulate the robot and GAZEBO the environment?

Rgds,

Clifford

Jordi Polo Carrés
You can not update your Linux distribution?
It may be possible to run an old Gazebo version on an old distribution but
you will not have most features IMHO.

In reply to this post by Jordi Polo Carrés
Hi,

I finally got down to installing Player/Stage/Gazebo after solving some issues for weeks. Player 2.1.2 and Stage 2.1.1 were installed in my FC7. I am running FC7 in VMware. I have followed some steps and got past ./configure of installing gazebo. Now, I'm in the gazebo package folder and when I run make install, it runs and runs and runs and at the end, I get

GazeboDriver.cc: In member function 'int GazeboDriver::LoadDevices(ConfigFile*, int)':
GazeboDriver.cc:298: error: 'PLAYER_TRUTH_CODE' was not declared in this scope
make[1]: *** [libgazeboplugin_la-GazeboDriver.lo] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/gazebo-0.7.0/player'
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1

Can anyone please help me with this? I need to get this installed so I can start on my project.
Please HELP!!

Re: New to GAZEBO

Hi,

Regarding my previous post, I think that the plugins were not installed.

But running gazebo example.world gives me

** Gazebo 0.8.0 **
* Part of the Player/Stage Project [http://playerstage.sourceforge.net].
* Copyright 2000-2005 Brian Gerkey, Richard Vaughan, Andrew Howard,
* Nate Koenig and contributors.
* Released under the GNU General Public License.
using display [:0.0]
X Error of failed request:  GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest
Major opcode of failed request:  145 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request:  16 (X_GLXVendorPrivate)
Serial number of failed request:  14
Current serial number in output stream:  16

Any ideas what should I do?

And when i try wxgazebo example.world, i get

bash: wxgazebo: command not found

Is it because the plugins were not installed correctly? Please help..

Re: New to GAZEBO

Toby Collett-3
It looks like you are running a mix of gazebo 0.7 and 0.8, wxgazebo does not
exist in 0.8 as gazebo supports a gui directly. Chances are the GLX error is
related to not having any rendering acceleration, this could be because you
are running in a virtual machine. what do the first few lines of glxinfo
return, does "glxinfo | head" report direct rendering is enabled?

I did install gazebo 0.7 but not gazebo0.8 which was a pre-2 package. Mayb some parts of gazebo0.8 were installed when i tried to run scons install althought it failed in the end. So does it mean I shld remove gazebo0.8 to allow wxgazebo to run? If so, the command shld be rpm -e gazebo0.8?

Thanks again!

Rgds.

I am not sure if you can enable direct rendering with vmware, possibly
searching some of the cmware related forums will give you some advice on
this, unless anyone else on this list has experience...

Re: New to GAZEBO

Hi,

Many thanks to Toby for his replies. I have actually searched around and found a supposedly workable way to enable direct rendering using VMWare PLAYER but it did not work..

Does anybody have any ideas?

Re: New to GAZEBO

Nate Koenig
Hello,

I have never successfully been able to run gazebo in vmware. Also,
gazebo-0.7 is no longer supported and is not compatible with player. I
would recommend getting a newer version of gazebo.

Re: New to GAZEBO

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I am now using Ubuntu8.04 without VMware. Installing gazebo0.8-pre3 now.

Running $scons install gives me this at the end

Any idea what should I do?

Jordi Polo Carrés
If you #include <cstring> on server/gui/StatusBar.cc I guess it will work
Anyway working with trunk version is a good idea, it uses to be in good
shape

Re: New to GAZEBO

Hi,

Thanks! Think that worked. But with new solutions comes new problems. Is there any way to see where the exact problems are or do we need experience?

/usr/bin/ld: /usr/local/lib/libode.a(box.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
/usr/local/lib/libode.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
scons: *** [libgazeboServer.so] Error 1
scons: building terminated because of errors.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Re: New to GAZEBO

Jordi Polo Carrés
you can add the problems and solutions to a FAQ in the Gazebo wiki, that
would be really cool.

You need to compile ode with -fPIC :
./configure --with-pic

It may be a temporal problem of sourceforge.
Can you "svn up "  that directory?

Re: New to GAZEBO

Hi,

I have done the svn and it was successful. But I still got,

Part of the Player/Stage Project [http://playerstage.sourceforge.net].
Copyright (C) 2003 Nate Koenig, Andrew Howard, and contributors.
Released under the GNU General Public License.

[server/GazeboConfig.cc:84]

[server/GazeboConfig.cc:92]
  Ogre Path[/usr/lib/OGRE]
creating /tmp/gazebo-root-0
creating /tmp/gazebo-root-0/simulation.default 112 145592
creating /tmp/gazebo-root-0/position.position_iface_0 112 288
creating /tmp/gazebo-root-0/laser.laser_iface_0 112 12512
creating /tmp/gazebo-root-0/fiducial.fiducial_iface_0 112 22600
Segmentation fault

after running gazebo test.world. Maybe it is because my Ogre is not of the correct version? mine is version 1.4.9.
Must I get ogre 1.6? What is the cmd to get it? Cause running apt-get install ogre1.6 gets me

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package ogre1.6

Rgds.

I don't think you need to see the others.

Unfortunatelly Gazebo depends on Ogre 1.6 that is still not packaged
for Ubuntu version
You can download from here
http://www.ogre3d.org/download/source
and compile it with ./configure make
